I know from experience that no matter how good a screenwriter you are, to build a career in Hollywood you've got to create sellable concepts and pitch them exceedingly well. That means walking into somebody's office and telling a story that will compel them to buy it and pay you to write it. I can teach you how to do that.

   

Silverman posterThis movie started as a crazy idea I had while hanging out with my former writing partner, Hank Nelken. We turned it into a 25-minute verbal story and pitched it to anyone in Hollywood who'd listen. It sold for six figures.

Jack Black and Jason Biggs were attached and soon we were shooting on location in Vancouver. It was an amazing experience and it all happened because the concept was catchy and our pitch was entertaining.

Most movies start as pitches. Even "assignment jobs" (book adaptations, re-writes, polishes) usually require pitches.
